Todd Bertrand Wins NEMA Feature At Waterford; Joey Mucciaciarro Takes Legends Win

WATERFORD – Through the 2012 season Todd Bertrand has experimented with different right front tire compounds.

Eventually Bertrand discovered that a certain harder compound was getting the job done.

That proved to be a problem this week when he found out that Hoosier stopped manufacturing the compound.

Saturday night Bertrand, of Suffield, fought through his tire shopping woes though, throwing on a used right front tire and racing to victory in the 30-lap Northeastern Midget Association feature.

Randy Cabral of Plymouth, Mass. was second and Mike Horn of Ashland, Mass. third.

It was the second consecutive year that Bertrand has won the event on the Speedbowl’s Thunder on the Sound card.

“At the end of the race of the car was pushing so bad that if I didn’t hit the apron perfectly coming out of the corner I would have hit the wall because the car was pushing,” Bertrand said. “So I had to basically use some methodology to keep the car on the bottom to prevent [Cabral] from passing me. I kind of knew that that was happening and I knew that on the restart I just had to drive it in harder than him and get on the throttle sooner than him and it worked.”

In the 25-lap Legends race it was Joey Mucciacciaro of Wolcott winning his first career event at the Speedbowl. Paul Kusheba IV of Monroe was second and Dylan Izzo of Westport third.
