Ryan Preece inherited the lead with four laps remaining and went to victory in the 10th Colors Edge John Blewett III North-South Shootout Tour Type Modified feature Saturday at Caraway Speedway.

It was the first North-South Shootout victory for Preece, of Berlin.

Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y. was second and Matt Hirschman of Northampton, Pa. third in the 125-lap event.

Preece was running fourth on lap 121 with Woody Pitkat leading, Tommy Barrett Jr. in second and Burt Myers in third. A bottom shot attempt by Barrett to take the lead on the lap sent Barrett and Pitkat out of contention and also collected Myers in third. Pitkat later said he crowded Barrett before they went spinning.

“I’m still in shock right now,” Preece said in a release from Caraway Speedway. “I don’t even know what to say. That was just the most up-and-down race.”

Preece held off Hossfeld on the final restart.

“I knew (Hossfeld) was good, but I knew we were a little bit better,” Preece said. “I just wanted to keep those guys out there, because I’ve lost two races to Matt Hirschman this year on the last lap. I wanted to keep him behind me. Awesome job by my crew, awesome job by everybody on this car. I’m so thankful right now, and I’m so happy to be here.”

Stafford Motor Speedway regular Michael Gervais Jr. of Southbury led every circuit on the way to victory in the 25-lap SK Modified feature.

“This is really special,” Gervais said. “We only got our first two wins this year [at Stafford Motor Speedway], so to come down here and be competitive, it really feels great.”
