Todd Bertrand Scores Victory In Northeastern Midget Association Season Opener At Waterford Speedbowl

WATERFORD – Opening day proved the stuff of dreams Sunday for Todd Bertrand.

Todd Bertrand celebrates victory Sunday at the Waterford Speedbowl

The Suffield driver opened the 2013 Northeastern Midget Association season in victory lane Sunday, winning the 25-lap for the division at the Budweiser Blastoff at the Waterford Speedbowl.

“I’ve dreamed of this happening,” Bertrand said.

Bertrand spent the first half of the race watching Anthony Marvuglio and Seth Carlson battle at the front of the field.

After getting by Carlson to take second, Bertrand took the lead from Marvuglio for good following a restart with 10 laps remaining.

“I knew that my car didn’t have enough stagger, because we were pushing on exit and on entry,” Bertrand said. “So I basically had to be methodical with the way I was driving. I had to hit the apron on entry and exit [of the corners] to get the car to turn.

“I knew that Seth was getting kind of loose. Those guys ran each other side-by-side. I tucked in behind them and once Anthony got the lead I kind of followed him a little bit. … I knew he’d run me very clean on the restart.”

Marvuglio, of Bridgewater, Mass., held on for second. Randy Cabral of Plymouth, Mass. was third.
