Waterford Speedbowl To Host Whelen Mod Tour Once In 2014; Eight State Dates For Series Next Year

Waterford Speedbowl management has yet to release its full 2014 schedule, but bits and pieces of it have been coming to light over the last month.

Whelen Modified TourThursday, another piece was revealed when track general manager Yokasta Eames announced through Facebook that the facility has signed an agreement to host the Whelen Modified Tour on June 21, 2014.

It will mark the third consecutive year the series will return to the track for the June event after a six year layoff for the division at the shoreline oval.

The Speedbowl was the site of one of the most dramatic finishes of the 2013 Whelen Modified Tour season when eventual series champion Ryan Preece bested 2012 series champion Doug Coby on a late restart to win the Mr. Rooter 161.

The announcement by Waterford officials firms up an eight event run for the Whelen Modified Tour at Connecticut tracks in 2014.

The series open its season on April 6 at Thompson Speedway and also closes its season at Thompson Oct. 19. The division also visits Thompson Aug. 13. The series makes four stops at Stafford Motor Speedway, with races on April 27, May 23, Aug. 8 and Sept. 28.

The full Whelen Modified Tour schedule is expected to be released in the coming days.
