THOMPSON – Ryan Preece came to Thompson Speedway Thursday looking for a slump buster behind the wheel of his SK Modified.

He got it and more.

Preece, of Berlin, won the second 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Thursday at Thompson Speedway to complete the sweep of both events for the night.

Woody Pitkat of Stafford was second and Keith Rocco of Wallingford third.

The first event of the night was a completion of the feature that began on May 15 but was stopped after 13 laps because of rain. In that event, Preece won a closing laps shootout over Rocco.

In the second race it was Pitkat that Preece had to fend off coming to the checkered.

Preece started 14th in the field and was up to second by lap nine. He went by Kerry Malone for the lead on lap 11 restart. Pitkat closed down on Preece’s big lead over the final five laps but it was Preece getting the best of him following a lap 28 restart.

“It wasn’t easy,” Preece said. [Pitkat] was pretty stout. Anytime you have [Pitkat] or [Rocco] with you … I think winning this race was just coming up through the pack. We were able to get to the lead and hold where we were. It was just awesome. I’m so happy for [car owners Albert and Cathy Moniz] and everybody that works on this team. It was a rough year last year and it’s been a little bit of a rough start, but my hats off to this team and everybody involved.”
