NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver and team owner Rob Fuller announced Wednesday that he will be giving up the seat in his car to a former series champion when the division heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway in July.

Fuller announced that 2003 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Todd Szegedy will be behind the wheel of his No. 15 ride for the New Hampshire 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 12.

Fuller said he made the decision to put Szegedy in the car after a recent test session with his new LFR Chassis. Fuller started LFR Chassis earlier this year.

“My intention was to work the bugs out of this new chassis and when the time was right, let someone take the wheel so I could focus on the business,” Fuller said in a release. “After the test last week, I feel this chassis can win races immediately with the right people in the correct positions. My knowledge of this chassis makes my value higher on the outside of the car. With Todd driving and me making adjustments and gathering data, I feel we can win right out of the box.”

Szegedy, the current Valenti Modified Racing Series points leader, will also compete for Rob Fuller Motorsports in the Whelen All-Star Shootout at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 11.

Szegedy, of Ridgefield, has 18 career victories in 181 Whelen Modified Tour starts. He won the F.W. Webb 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway last September.

“I’m really excited to help Rob out with the new LFR Chassis and I’m excited to return to the tour,” Szegedy said.  “I definitely enjoy being able to try something new. No matter how you look at it we’re going out there to win races. I’m thankful for Rob to give me the opportunity and it’s an honor to be part of this from the ground up.”

After eight years with team owner Mike Smeriglio III on the Whelen Modified Tour, Szegedy and the team parted ways after last season. Szegedy is running full-time this year for Lowell, Mass. based owner Kevin Stuart on the Valenti Modified Racing Series.

Fuller is running part-time this year on the Whelen Modified Tour and Valenti Modified Racing Series. Szegedy will be sponsored for the events by Fuller’s regular sponsor, 15-40 Connectiction, a non-profit group charged with raising awareness of recognizing cancer symptoms in adults ages 15 to 40.
