WATERFORD – As a racing lifer, Keith Rocco remembers well being a teenager and watching Dennis Gada absolutely dominate the competition at the Waterford Speedbowl year after year in the 1990’s.

Saturday Rocco joined Gada in rare air of the Speedbowl record book.

Rocco won the 35-lap Charlie Mitchell Memorial SK Modified feature Saturday at the Waterford Speedbowl.

Ted Christopher of Plainville was second and Tim Jordan of Plainfield third.

It was the 62nd career SK Modified victory at Waterford for Rocco, tying Gada at the top of the track’s all-time win list for the division.

Rocco recorded his first SK Modified division victory at the track in 2008. It was the eighth SK Modified victory of the season at Waterford for Rocco.

“It’s awesome,” Rocco said. “I used to come here when I was a kid after my father stopped racing and Dennis Gada would just win every week. He was the guy to beat back then. When I was getting out I was just getting in. It’s just awesome to tie his record in such a short period of time.”

With 18 laps left Rocco dove to the bottom and got under Christopher in turn four. Rocco come out of turn two with lead half a lap later and was never challenged again.

“Ted’s going to put up a fight,” Rocco said. “It’s been a long time since Ted’s got a win down here, and he wanted it, he’s hungry. To be able to race like that with him and have to work for this one is great.”
