It’s time for the Waterford Speedbowl to take center stage as the Southern New England short track racing season draws to close.

The Waterford Speedbowl runs its Finale Weekend Saturday and Sunday at the shoreline oval, with the Valenti Modified Racing Series in the house for a 100-lap feature on Sunday.

The weekend features 13 feature events, with seven events on the schedule, along with qualifying for all divisions, on Saturday.

Saturday: 25-lap SK Light Modified, 25-lap Legends, 20-lap X-Car, 20-lap Super X-Car, 25-lap Outlaw Stock, 25-lap NEMA Lite and 20-lap Bandolero. Qualifying for all divisions. Grandstands open: 11:30 a.m.; Qualifying: 2:30 p.m.; Features: 5 p.m.
Sunday: 100-lap Valenti Modified Racing Series, 50-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified, 50-lap Late Model, 30-lap Street Stock, 30-lap Mini Stock, 25-lap NEMA. Grandstands open: 9 a.m.; Pit Party: 9:30 a.m.; Features: Noon.

Reigning series champion Rowan Pennink is six points behind Bonsignore. Two-time series champion Chris Pasteryak is 30 points behind in the standings in third place. … Marks the 15th of 17 Modified Racing Series events in 2014. The third and final event of the 2014 season at Waterford for the Modified Racing Series. … Track regular and Modified Racing Series part-timer Keith Rocco won the division’s season opening event at Waterford on April 13. Another track regular and series part-timer, Ted Christopher, won in the division’s most previous trip to the track on Aug. 9. … Last week at Waterford, Keith Rocco won his 11th SK Modified feature in 22 events this season. Rocco had already clinched the 2014 division championship for the second consecutive year. … Other SK Modified division winners this year include Tyler Chadwick (two), Ed Puleo (twice), Kyle James (twice), Diego Monahan, Rob Janovic Jr., Joey Gada, Jeffrey Gallup and Craig Lutz. … Jason Palmer won for the third time this season in last week’s Late Model feature.     I can’t say for sure, but considering the forecast looks great for Sunday, I’d imagine that just might be the case.

    Hard to pinpoint details on the future, though I’m confident there will be racing there next year.
