The rubber known best to teams of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will remain the same going forward.
Longtime Whelen Modified Tour tire provider Hoosier Racing Tire will remain as the division’s exclusive tire provider.
Irish Saunders, manager of contract sales for Hoosier Racing Tire confirmed to RaceDayCT Wednesday evening that NASCAR has agreed to extend their deal with Hoosier.
“I talked to [Whelen Modified Tour director] Jimmy Wilson tonight and I said ‘Jimmy, here’s the thing, we’re going to be at the [Performance Racing Show in Indianpolis] starting tomorrow morning and there’s going to be racers that are going to come up and they’re going to want to know what’s going on.’ Saunders said. “I said ‘What do we need to be saying?’ He said ‘What we need to tell them is that we extended our contract, the Hoosier contract with the tour.’ So that’s what we’re doing.”
Rumors that NASCAR has been looking to change to a different tire manufacturer for the two touring Modified division for the 2015 season have run rampant since late in the 2014 season.
“I’ve been involved with the Modified Tour since 1988 and I see a lot of good things happening with NASCAR and the Tour,” Saunders said. “It’s a great group of people that’s working with the Tour. I think they’ve got a lot of good things coming on the horizon that’s going to make the Tour strong and the racing is going to be very exciting and more interesting. It’s definitely something that people have to get back out and see. I live in the Midwest and I don’t get to see Modified racing every weekend, if I could I would. NASCAR has been great since I’ve been doing it since 1988. We’ve got good product, they’re good to work with and the competitors are great people to work with also.”
