In October at Thompson Speedway Doug Coby of Milford raised the trophy as the 2014 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion.
Saturday night in Charlotte, N.C. Coby – along with his Mike Smeriglio Racing team – got to revel in the formal celebration of his accomplishment at NASCAR’s Night of Champions banquet.
It was the second Whelen Modified Tour title for Coby, who won his first driving for team owner Wayne Darling in 2012.
Coby was in his first season in 2014 driving for team owner Mike Smeriglio III.
It was the first series championship for Smeriglio.
