The news that was broken exclusively earlier today by RaceDayCT.com, has been made official.
NASCAR announced this afternoon that the Whelen Modified Tour will indeed compete in an event at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl on Saturday May 30.
The event will continue to be known as the Mr. Rooter 161.
“We are excited to have the opportunity to return New London-Waterford Speedbowl to the calendar for 2015,” George Silbermann, NASCAR vice president for regional and touring series said in a release. “It is great news for modified fans that new track owner Bruce Bemer and his staff desired to continue to feature the Whelen Modified Tour on the Speedbowl schedule and remain a NASCAR Home Track.”
With the track embroiled in the legal issues surrounding the October foreclosure auction and transfer of ownership, the facility was left off the original Whelen Modified Tour schedule which was announced in early December.
The Whelen Modified Tour returned to the Waterford Speedbowl in 2012 after a six-year hiatus, and has run the last three seasons annually the third weekend in June.
It will mean three Whelen Modified Tour events in Connecticut over a 12-day stretch.
The division will run at Stafford Motor Speedway on June 5 and Thompson Speedway on June 10.
