STAFFORD – The entry list for the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour O’Reilly Auto Parts 200 at Monadnock Speedway will be short one former series champion Saturday night in Winchester, N.H.

Ted Christopher, the Whelen Modified Tour’s 2008 champion and the division third winningest driver of all time, confirmed to RaceDayCT Friday that he has decided to skip the Whelen Modified Tour O’Reilly Auto Parts 200 at Monadnock Speedway.

Christopher, of Plainville, will instead compete in the Prestige Motorsports SK Modified that he runs regularly at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl Saturday.

“My fun meter is pegged on the bottom and my money meter is pegged at the top,” Christopher joked of his decision to skip the event at Monadnock.

Christopher was involved in a hard wreck last Saturday in the Whelen Modified Tour Andy Blacksmith 100 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

“After Loudon, my car got wrecked pretty good,” Christopher told RaceDayCT. “It’s going to cost a lot to get that back together before we come to Stafford [Aug 7]. We dropped to ninth in points. We’re not in the position where we’re going to end up fighting for points. I’m a realist, I know. You’d have to have the top-five guys in the front fall out for two weeks and I’d have to go win races.”

Christopher has four victories this season in the SK Modified at Waterford. Keith Rocco, who leads the SK Modified division at Waterford with five victories, will be competing for Our Motorsports at Monadnock.

Christopher said he is also looking at the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national standings, where he is currently eighth.

“I’m going good [at the Speedbowl],” Christopher said. “Right now, for me for points, I’d look more toward the [NASCAR Whelen All-American Series national standings] more than anything. I’m not going to win the national championship, but I can probably get myself in the top-five. My car is going good [at the Speedbowl] and they’re getting 20-something cars there, so you get good points for the national deal.”

Comments

  1. T.C. not at a Whelen tour race. There’s something terribly wrong with that!!!!!

  2. Yes. It’s called money.

  3. glad to ted c. at the Speedbowl. go get another win tonight teddy.

  4. I would think that the tour will be calling TC very soon. How dare he diss the tour like that, not only not entering but publicly announcing he won’t be at the tour show.

  5. Youhavenoidea says

He didn’t ask for it the media came to him although i do agree with u but the tour won’t call him lol. Go get me teddy at the bowl

  6. Youhavenoidea says

Go get em at the bowl lol spelling error lol

  7. If he is worried about national points he should race his SK at Thompson next week

  8. Andy Boright says

Take a look at all the good modified drivers who don’t give a rat’s ass about the series championship. That should tell you something about the tour and the direction it’s headed in.

On the fans side, who knows if or when Larry will pull the plug on this show. He pulled a boner of a move July 4th, and history tends to repeat itself. I wouldn’t think of going to Monadnock if the weather is iffy.

  9. I was thinking the same as LM. Shawn, have you heard if TC will be at Thompson on Wednesday night?

  10. Paul,
I don’t think he has any plans on being at Thompson on Wednesday.

  11. Plus in August TC might be there for the Tour show and run the SK that night also for the national points. Unless he does think his SK can compete at Thompson

  12. I wonder why TC does not go to thompson? It is a favorite track for him, would like to know the reason

  13. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why TC doesn’t race at Thompson. If he’s running for national points you need a certain amount of cars in a race to get max points.

  14. Rocco and Preece run thompson, it’s not always about the points, trophy’s and fun have a lot to do with it. It’s not like they run weekly. I’m thinking that the rules are not the same…??

  15. There will be as many SK’s there this week as there were are both Stafford and Waterford this weekend

  16. 23 at Waterford 17 at Stafford. Thompson should get a good field because the sk’s are having the three race format. Last time Thompson had 14 which was a joke. It’s not like they don’t have enough time between races to prepare cars to race there.

  17. Chris D. says

Teddy has a business to run… It’s not worth hauling to Thompson on a week night, too hard to get a crew together for a midweek show, run for peanuts, then get up and go to work the next day.

  18. Chris D. says

Preece and Rocco don’t run the same car at Thompson that they do at Stafford. If someone with a good car offered Ted a ride at Thompson where all he had to do is show up and drive he’d probably do it.

  19. TC isn’t that good anymore to get those types of rides

  20. “There will be as many SK’s there this week as there were are both Stafford and Waterford this weekend” Not even close…

  21. Youhavenoidea says

Lm trust me tc is still that good where he can get those type of rides, sometimes luck isn’t on your side but that doesn’t mean u lost talent, so before you open your mouth know what your talking about

  22. Yea ! The king still has it at !
