When the North-South Shootout returns to North Carolina’s Concord Speedway for the first time in five years, the tour-type Modifieds will be racing for a cool $10,000 prize on November 6-7. That money is being provided by someone who is Modified crazy. That someone is Doug Dunleavy, owner of Connecticut’s Dunleavy’s Truck and Trailer Repair.

Dunleavy, a longtime fan and supporter of Modified racing has been all over the Modified scene the last few years, but especially in 2015 with his support of NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champions (North) Doug Coby, Ryan Preece, Jamie Tomaino and (South) George Brunnhoelzl III, as well as young up-and-coming drivers Chase Dowling and Tom Abele. In addition to supporting drivers, he’s also sponsored plenty of events around the Northeast this year.

Now Dunleavy is coming south to show his support for the 13th running of the John Blewett III North-South Shootout. The tour-type Modifieds will be known as the Dunleavy’s Truck and Trailer Repair Modifieds and the winner will take home a $10,000 check.

“I think the North-South Shootout is a great show, and I really think it will be a home run this year,” said Dunleavy. “I love doing crazy events like this.”

Dunleavy is known for doing crazy things in the northern part of the country for Modified events, like his “Pick out of the Hat” drawing that will now pay over $10,000 to the pole winner of the NWMT season finale event at Connecticut’s Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park.

He said that he was persuaded by the 2013 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour champion Ryan Preece to pitch in with the Shootout this year, so he had to figure out a way to get involved.

“I told Renee Hackett from Caraway Speedway (the race’s promoters) that I’d like to help out, so I decided to put up 10-grand to the winner of the Tour (Type) Modified race,” he said. “It originally started as me doing five for the Tour Mods and five for the SK’s. That’s how it started, but now Mr. Rooter is putting up five thousand for the SK’s, so I’m doing 10 thousand for the Tour Mods.”

So who does Dunleavy expect to be handing a check to at the end of this year’s North-South Shootout?

“Honestly, I think it’ll be the southern champs; either Brunnhoelzl or Andy Seuss to be honest,” admitted Dunleavy. “I feel a lot of good energy from those guys. They’re really determined to do what it takes to win that and they’re really psyched up.”

Entry forms for the $10,000-to-win John Blewett III Dunleavy’s Truck and Trailer Repair Tour-Type Modified North-South Shootout event, as well as the $5,000-to-win Mr. Rooter SK Modified event, are currently available by visiting www.northsouthshootout.net.
