Preece will race for the first time at super-fast Talladega Superspeedway in Saturday’s Sparks Energy 300 Xfinity race.

Typically, cars circle the 2.66-mile track in giant drafting packs, an art and a science that rewards experience and patience.

“I’m looking forward to getting there and getting adjusted to it all,” Preece said. “The big drafts will take some getting used to, I’m sure. It helps that I’ll have a couple of teammates (Ross Chastain and Garrett Smithley) out there, too.”

Preece will be in the G&K Services Chevy in Saturday’s 113-lap event.

Practice is scheduled at Talladega at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. (ET) Friday. Qualifying is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, with the race to follow at 3 p.m.

Another race, another backmarker finish – big deal.

  2. Andy??
The guy is 17th in points 1st year
Work on your jealousy of others!!!!
    Preece represents ct well

  3. He might make the chase!!! HAHAHAHAHAAHHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH. Just be top 12 or win a race and he’s in!!!

  4. Backmarker finish at Talladega Andy? All you have to do is still have all 4 wheels and most of your fenders intact when the white flags comes out to have a chance at a top 5 with all the stuff it happens in the Xfinity races there.

  5. This series is a joke! You have the Gibbs, JR, and Childress cars that dominate…. and then at the back are the Davis cars. So he is 17th in points, with a best finish of 3 laps down…. how many cars has he actually passed in the 8 xfinity races this season? Is passing Jeff Green, Derrick Cope, Carl Long or 74 year old Morgan Shepherd even considered racing?

  6. Andy Seuss had a strong run going in ARCA race today at Dega until taken out trying to pit under green with the pack. He was a high as 4th on a couple of occasions.

  7. I love the mods. But he’s actually making a living racing…get a perspective.

  8. Andy Boright says

    Talk about getting a perspective!!!
He’s 17th in points in a series where 1/3 of the starters (Cup drivers) DON’T GET ANY POINTS!!!!
He’s barely above a start-n-park team, yeah he’s earning a living (and isn’t afraid to remind his modified crew on occasion of that fact), but he isn’t doing any more “racing” for his paycheck than a Morgan Sheppard or Reed Sorenson is.

  9. Little angry about something are we? Haha

  10. darealgoodfella says

Well, say what you will, Preece is one of 40 drivers starting, and thousands of others would love to be one of those drivers.

  11. Till the money runs out or someone with deeper pockets comes along, not more talent just more cash

  12. Congrats to Ryan – top 15 and lead lap. Keep improving!!!

  13. darealgoodfella says

Preece got plenty of TV time today. Ran in the top 10-ish for quite a while, even up to 5th place for a bit. The announcers were talking about him too.

Not sure why he did what he did. He went high, as if he were going to bust a move on the outside, but nobody went with him, and he got hung out and fell back.

  14. Joe Lajoie says

Hey Andy, Ryan gets to drive race cars for a living and he’s getting paid for it.
Do you even get minimum wage for moaning and groaning negative thoughts behind a keyboard??

  15. Thats Ryan, he’s not interested in racing for top five.he tried to make a move.waltrip laffed and said he’s made the same mistake.Ryan is going turn a lot of heads this year inspite of the mealy mouthed experts on this site. The year he won the mod championship he needed a 23rd for Coby to be locked out.i believe it was an interview on this site were Doug said it all over he will play it safe and win the championship. Not ryan he raced up front at thompson all day wheel to wheel at a blistering pace and finished 2 or 3. I don’t remember exactly, but I will remember that day a long time.I expect many more big days from Mr.Preece.

  16. Andy Boright says

He’s getting paid to drive race cars just like Reed Sorenson and Morgan Shepard are, but he’s not a frontrunner with a front running team.

If he wants to carve out a career in backmarker equipment like JJ Yaley and several other talented short track racers have, who am I to say otherwise, but he sure isn’t competing for wins.

And how come none of the Preece cheerleaders didn’t mention the fact that he almost out-qualified 70+ year old Morgan Shepard?

I have to laugh when people act proud that he is 17th in points, conveniently forgetting that several of the drivers finishing in front of him and winning races aren’t getting any points.

Have fun cheering on the backmarker, and make sure you update the rest of the world on his mediocre finishes in a series few people care about.

  17. bogoose andy is exactly the expert i’ve been talking about.Lets see if Preece moves up to cup maybe with a top team.I don’t know exactly what bogoose will say then, but I’ll bet it will be stupid.

  18. Andy Boright says

If Preece wants a ride in a top 10 Cup car, all he has to do is buy one. He’s not in the same league as Logano, Larson, or Keselowski. Afterall, those guys didn’t have to take a ride in junk to race in the same series Preece finds himself in.

Let’s see Ryan Preece earn his living racing on short tracks where you either run up front or starve. Plenty of people have earned a living as a backmarker in NASCAR, look how long Derrick Cope has been around.

  19. Chris D. says

Let’s see how he does at the 3 road course races that are on the schedule in August.

  20. He has more road course experience than you think, Chris D.
