Oswego Speedway Announces Title Sponsor For Whelen Mod Tour Toyota Mod Classic 150

Oswego speedway logoFor the first time since 1989, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour will return to Oswego Speedway and Budweiser International Classic Weekend for the running of the Toyota ‘Mod Classic 150’ presented by McDonald’s on Saturday, September 3.

The 150-lap Classic event will run in conjunction with the Bud Light ISMA Super Nationals 60 main event on the second of three nights of activity during the 60th annual celebration of Budweiser International Classic Weekend, running from September 2-4.

“All of us at Oswego Speedway are beyond excited to welcome Toyota and McDonald’s to the Speedway family in 2016, as well as an increased partnership from Budweiser as the Official Beer of the Toyota ‘Mod Classsic 150’ presented by McDonald’s this Classic Weekend,” said Oswego Speedway PR Director, Dan Kapuscinski. “With the addition of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour to this year’s Classic schedule, we’re confident that this star studded racing weekend will be one to remember – especially with the added partnerships of Toyota, McDonald’s, and Budweiser.”

Since 1955, McDonald’s has served the world some of its favorite food. From humble beginnings as a small restaurant, McDonald’s has become one of the world’s leading foodservice retailers with more than 36,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries.

Two of those locations reside in the Port City of Oswego including the west side location at 230 W. Bridge St., as well as the Speedway location at 246 NY-104, directly in front of the ‘Steel Palace.’

The 2016 NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule is already well on its way, with two events having been completed at Thompson Speedway Motorsports Park and Stafford Motor Speedway.

Islip, NY driver Timmy Solomito captured his first career NWMT main event win at Thompson on April 10 while defending series champion Doug Coby of Milford, CT dominated at Stafford on April 24.

With the Stafford victory Coby holds a slim one point edge on Solomito in the race for the series championship with Justin Bonsignore, Rowan Pennink, Chase Dowling, Bobby Santos, Donna Lia, Shawn Solomito, Max Zachem, and Matt Swanson filling the top ten positions in the series.

The Tour will next hit New London-Waterford Speedbowl on May 14.

Budweiser International Classic Weekend will see its schedule open on Friday, September 2 with pit gates opening at 11:30 a.m. and hot laps for Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS running from 1 p.m. to 5:15 p.m.

SBS time trials will then take place at 5:30 p.m. followed by Supermodified Pole Day time trials and SBS heat races.

When the final checkered flag falls, Dirtroad Ruckus will hit the stage at approximately 7:30 p.m.

The Party in the Pits, highlighted by Dirtroad Ruckus, will begin a weekend of main event racing featuring the NASCAR Whelen Modified Toyota ‘Mod Classic 150’ presented by McDonald’s and the Bud Light ISMA Super Nationals on Saturday, September 3 followed by the 25th anniversary Bud Light SBS Classic and the 60th Budweiser International Classic 200 for Supermodifieds on Sunday, September 4.

Three day tickets for Budweiser Classic Weekend are currently on sale by calling the Speedway box office at (315) 342-0646. Full weekend tickets start at only $90.

Kids 16 and under will again be admitted free at all Speedway events in 2016 with the exception of Budweiser International Classic Weekend and Race of Champions Weekend.

On track activity beings at Oswego Speedway on Saturday, May 7 with the annual open test session for all racing divisions. Testing will run from 1-5pm on May 7 and is free for spectators to sit in the main grandstand.

Racing action at the Speedway begins on Saturday, May 14 featuring the Speedway’s 66th consecutive opening night highlighted by the Race of Champions Modified Richie Evans Memorial 61 as well as kick-off events for the Novelis Supermodifieds and Pathfinder Bank SBS.
