Tony Membrino Jr. Wins New England Racing Fuel Support Performer Of The Week Award

NE Racing Fuel Support Performer Award

Sunday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl Tony Membrino Jr. pulled off one of the more memorable feats accomplished in the ranks of open wheel racing in Connecticut in quite some time.

The Berlin driver won the 25-lap SK Light Modified feature at the Bud Blastoff 2016 at the Speedbowl and in the process completed a sweep of all three opening weekend events at the state’s three NASCAR sanctioned shorts tracks.

Membrino won the SK Light Modified feature at Thompson’s Icebreaker on April 9 at the division’s opener at Stafford Motor Speedway’s NAPA Spring Sizzler on April 23.

Now Membrino has pulled off another first for this season. Membrino is the first driver to win the New England Racing Fuel Support Performer of the Week Award twice in one season.

Membrino also won the award following his victory at Thompson. Alexandra Fearn is the only other winner of the award this season.

Membrino ran away with the voting this week, finishing with 97 of 199 votes cast (48.7 percent). Wayne Burroughs Jr., who won the Mini Stock feature at Waterford Sunday, was second with 43 votes (21.6 percent).

Each week during the 2016 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Support Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in one of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly support divisions (excludes SK Modified divisions) at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.

Membrino will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel.

The final voting results are listed below.
