Tony Membrino Jr. has owned the SK Light Modified division in Connecticut in 2016.

In the process he’s also taken over ownership of the New England Racing Support Performer of the Week Award.

Four times the award has been presented in 2016 and three times Membrino has taken it home.

Membrino, who ended up with two more SK Light Modified victories for the recent race weekend, was winner of this week’s New England Racing Fuel Support Performer Award.

Membrino, of Berlin, garnered 91 of 282 votes this week (32.3 percent).

Membrino won Friday’s 20-lap SK Light Modified feature at Stafford Motor Speedway. He finished second to Cory DiMatteo on the track in the 25-lap feature for the division at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl, but was later declared the winner after DiMatteo was disqualified for fuel issues.

Monte Gibbs of Killingworth, who scored his first career Limited Sportsman victory Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl was second in the voting, showing up on 57 ballots (20.2 percent).

Membrino has been nominated for the Performer of the Week award all four weeks it has been given in 2016. He finished second in the voting to Stafford Speedway DARE Stock driver Alexandra Fearn for the April 23-24 award.

Each week during the 2016 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Support Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in one of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly support divisions (excludes SK Modified divisions) at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.

Membrino will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel.
