The season-opening Xfinity Series race at Daytona International Speedway wasn’t particularly pleasant for Ryan Preece.

Only five laps into the race, a blown tire sent Preece into an accident and out of the race.

He never had a chance to show the strength of his JD Motorsports with Gary Keller Chevrolet.
This week, Preece rolls into DIS again, looking for much better luck.

“After all the time we spent in Daytona in February, it was tough to fall out of the race that early,” Preece said. “We’re going back shooting to finish the race and do well. It owes us one.”

Preece, driving the G&K Services Chevrolet this weekend, sits 19th in Xfinity driver points entering the race.

Daytona practice is scheduled at 2 and 4 p.m. (ET) Thursday. Qualifying is set for 2:10 p.m. Friday, with the race to follow at 7:30 p.m.

  1. Top ten 4 sure

  2. The only way I see a top ten for this team is if 25 cars don’t finish, sorry just calling it as I see it.

  3. humphry ,
    Have you ever seen any of these Xfinity races at Daytona or Talladega? As I have said before is all you need is to still have all 4 wheels and most of the body panels on your car when you take the white flag to have a shot at a top 5.

    I think that Ryan’s best chance for better finishes are the plate tracks and the road courses if they can put decent engines in the car.

    @Brainfreeze –
    So much for putting a decent engine in the car!

  6. In an interview, I think before he even ran an xfinity lap, Ryan said the challenge will be getting competitive engines. No surprises here. Top notch engines cost astronomical $$$$$$.

    @darealgoodfella –
    Very true on all counts.
    What’s more frustrating is the number of DNF’s Preece has had compared to even his teammates, who are getting the same (in theory) equipment. Beginning to look like he’s the red-headed stepchild of the (mediocre) team.

    No offense to Ryan, but if you can’t be good be spectacular. That was a pretty spectacular engine failure.
