Stafford Motor Speedway has announced that State Representative Kurt Vail will serve as the Grand Marshal of the 19th Annual Stafford 150 NASCAR K&N East Series race on June 17. Representative Vail will send the K&N Pro Series East field on its way with the most famous words in motorsports, “Drivers, Start Your Engines.”

Representative Vail was born and raised in Stafford Springs, and he has maintained a close relationship with Stafford over the years as he has served on the Stafford School Board, the Stafford Downtown Revitalization Committee, and the Stafford Recreation Committee. He has also lent his time to youth sports by coaching Stafford High Football from 1998 to 2000 and he has served as a board member of Stafford Youth Football from 2006 to present, holding the office of president from 2007 to 2009.

“Acting as Grand Marshall of the Stafford 150 K&N Pro Series East race at Stafford Motor Speedway is a great honor and I am looking forward to partaking in this important local event,” said Representative Vail, who was born and raised in Stafford and is a regular spectator at the track. “I want to wish all the participants the best of luck, and with a quality field of young drivers I am excited to see some excellent racing.”

Representative Vail was elected in November 2014 to serve the 52nd Assembly District of Somers and Stafford. He serves on the legislature’s Insurance and Real Estate, Labor and Public Employees, and Public Safety and Security committees. Vail has nearly six years of experience in the insurance agency and he is currently an insurance agent for Paradiso Insurance, located on East Main Street in downtown Stafford Springs, where he is licensed to sell property and casualty as well as life and health insurance.

The Stafford 150 will also present a unique opportunity for fans and media alike to view the cars and haulers as well as meet the drivers during the WEEI 105.5FM K&N Fan Experience on Thursday, June 16. The event will be FREE of charge. There will be a practice session from 3pm-6:30pm on Thursday, June 16, the day before the Stafford 150 and at the conclusion of the practice session, Stafford Speedway will open its paddock area to allow race fans and media to meet and greet the drivers as well as getting a preview of the cars and team haulers from 6:45pm-8:30pm, much like the atmosphere at the track’s season beginning and season ending NAPA Pit Parties. WEEI 105.5FM will be on hand with a live broadcast during the event, and there will be display trucks on hand from the Connecticut Chapter of Make-A-Wish and CT Truck Wars along with other displays and giveaways. It’s sure to be a festival atmosphere that race fans won’t want to miss out on.
