Woody Pitkat Wins New England Racing Fuel Support Performer Of The Week Award

NE Racing Fuel Support Performer Award

Friday Woody Pitkat played moonlighter extraordinaire in the Late Model division at Stafford Motor Speedway.

The former Late Model champion at Stafford took a borrowed ride from Michael Bennett and won the Xtra Mart Xtra D 50-lap event for the division.

Pitkat took over the ride while Bennett served a suspension for issues during the feature at Stafford on May 20.

And that win for Pitkat was enough to bring him some more accolades this week.

Pitkat, of Stafford, was voted by fans this week at the New England Racing Fuel Support Performer of the Week Award.

Pitkat garnered 169 of 481 votes (35.1 percent) this week in the balloting for the award.

Daniel Wesson of Monson, Mass., who came out on top of a 3-wide battle to the checkered flag in the SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford Speedway, was second in the voting with 138 votes (28.7 percent). Chris Ivory of Oakdale, the Mini Stock winner Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl was third in the voting (73 votes, 15.2 percent)

Each week during the 2016 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Support Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in one of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly support divisions (excludes SK Modified divisions) at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.

Pitkat will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel.

The final voting results are listed below.

Comments

  1. Just so we all know, how can Woody be eligible for this.He is a S/K ,Tour, driver? The award is suppose to be for support division drivers and owners.Woody is NOT a support division driver.Am I wrong?

  2. Kevin T,
Nowhere does it say anybody is ineligible based on anything they might drive. Here’s the deal, each week the winners of all the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series features that are run at Stafford, Thompson and Waterford – not including the SK Modified divisions – are nominated for the award. That means this past week the winner of the Late Model, SK Light Modified, Limited Late Model and DARE Stock features at Stafford were nominated for the award along with the winners of the Late Model and Mini Stock features from Waterford. Keith Rocco gets nominated many times for Late Model wins at Waterford. The award was created to recognize and reward drivers and teams from the divisions below the premier division. And yes, sometimes there are drivers that compete in the premier division that also compete in a lower division, but they are eligible for the award for competing in those recognized divisions.

  9. No problem Kevin. I compare this award to the xfinity series. The big guys always stealing from the little guys lol.
