The chase is on for Al Stone III.

The Durham driver is looking to make history this year at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl by becoming the first driver in track history to win four Limited Sportsman division championships.

And the reigning champion has been on fire of late, winning three of the last six events at the track.

And his victory from Saturday night came with an extra bonus.

Stone won this week’s New England Racing Fuel Support Performer of the Week Award.

Stone collected 145 of 359 votes cast this week (40.4 percent).

Wayne Burroughs Jr. of Oakdale, who won the Mini Stock event Saturday at the Speedbowl, was second in the voting, collecting 121 votes (33.7 percent).

Each week during the 2016 racing season the New England Racing Fuel RaceDayCT Support Performer of the Week will be chosen from among drivers competing in events in one of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series weekly support divisions (excludes SK Modified divisions) at Stafford Motor Speedway, Thompson Speedway and the Waterford Speedbowl.

Stone will receive a $20 certificate for race fuel from New England Racing Fuel.
