Top Dog: Doug Coby Gets 7th Pole Of Season In Whelen Mod Tour Bud 150 Qualifying At Thompson

THOMPSON – NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour qualifying sessions have become the personal playground for reigning series champion Doug Coby in 2016.

Ten pole awards have been awarded and seven of them have gone to the Milford driver.

The latest came Wednesday at Thompson Speedway when Coby scored the pole for tonight’s Whelen Modified Tour Budweiser King of Beers 150.

It was the 21st career series pole overall for Coby, who has won the last two series titles and three of the last four.

Coby toured the .625-mile oval with a fast lap of 19.016 seconds (118.321 mph).

Ron Silk of Norwalk was second fastest during qualifying at 19.079 seconds (117.931 mph).

Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. will start third in the field after putting up a lap of 19.131 seconds (117.610 mph).

Rob Summers of Manchester was fourth in qualifying (19.159 seconds, 117.438 mph) and Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass. fifth (19.178 seconds, 117.322 mph).

Eric Goodale of Riverhead, N.Y, Timmy Solomito of Islip, N.Y., Ryan Preece of Berlin, Andrew Krause of Holdmdel, N.Y. and Chase Dowling of Roxbury rounded out the top-10 in qualifying respectively.

  1. Great job Doug! Not many people know how hard it is to stay on top of the racing game we choose to compete in. It’s a grind and it speaks volumes for the effort/talent that fans are watching and competitors are racing against. Some hate those who are dominant (i.e. NE Patriots, Kyle Busch or Jeff Gordon back in his hay day) but they overlook the pure beauty of maintaining achieving AND maintaining a high level of performance for an extended period. That’s something that anyone in any game for a long period of time has respect for and appreciates.
