KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Ryan Preece finished 32nd in Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300 Xfinity Series race at Kansas Speedway.

Preece started 24th and ran as high as 17th but dropped into the 30s late in the race.

In a bizarre incident, a shock absorber flew off Preece’s car, sailed through the air and landed in the grille of teammate Ross Chastain’s Chevrolet. Both drivers finished the race.

“A crazy day at the track,” Preece said. “We just couldn’t get up there with the front pack. A long day, but we learned a lot. We’ll be back stronger here.”

Sprint Cup invader Kyle Busch won the race, leading the final 14 laps. Daniel Suarez and Elliott Sadler are tied atop the points.

The series rolls on to Texas Motor Speedway for a Nov. 5 race. After Texas, races at Phoenix and Homestead, Fla. will complete the season.

  1. And this is what happens when you drive for a race team that can’t afford to pay decent help. Money goes faster than talent.
