Format Set For Dunleavy’s Modifiedz Night At Stafford Motor Speedway

(Press Release from Stafford Motor Speedway)

Excitement continues to build for the Inaugural Dunleavy’s Truck and Trailer Repair Modifiedz Night at Stafford Speedway slated for Friday, May 26th. The SK Light Modified division will headline the event with a 40-lap feature boasting a purse of over $10,000. To be eligible for the event drivers will be required to compete in a minimum of 2 of the first 4 SK Light events of 2017 at Stafford.

“One of our concerns with a big show is an outside team coming in for the one show, getting 6 tires in their inventory because they are new (per rule 20E-10.8 TIRES) and getting an advantage over the weekly guys,” explained Mark Arute, Stafford Speedway General Manager. “The two race event requirement prevents this issue and protects the weekly teams.”

Additionally the top-15 in the Stafford SK Light point standings on May 21st will be locked in to the 40-lap feature.

“Our focus has always been on how to put more in the weekly racer’s pocket,” continued Arute. “Locking in the top-15 in points and requiring two starts prior to Dunleavy’s Night will ensure that our weekly drivers will get a piece of the big purse.”

Teams will have 4 opportunities to prepare for the Friday, May 26th event starting with the NAPA Auto Parts Spring Sizzler on April 29th and 30th. Strong results at the beginning of the season will be more important than ever as the top-15 in points come May 26th will be locked into the field for the big money 40-lap feature.

“I want this race to showcase the talent that is in the SK Light division,” explained Doug Dunleavy of Dunleavy’s Truck & Trailer Repair. “I want the guys who race SK Lights on a weekly basis to be the spotlight of the night. The SK Light drivers put on one of the best shows each week and Dunleavy’s Modifiedz Night will be their night.”

The 2017 SK Light season at Stafford is shaping up to once again be highly competitive. At this point, 46 drivers have already pre-registered numbers with the track, including a wide variety of rookies and SK Light veterans.

“This purse is unheard of for these guys,” continued Dunleavy. “Donny from R.A.D Automachine has jumped in and will pay a bonus to the top-3 finishers with his motor package and there are a few more bonus additions in the works that Mark [Arute] and the team have been working on to make Modifiedz night big.”

In addition, the SK Modifieds® will race an extra 10 laps in distance with an additional $4,000 in purse money posted by Dunleavy’s Truck & Trailer Repair. As part of Memorial Day Weekend, there will be fireworks and special discount admission pricing for active and retired military members at the gates. With Stafford’s Late Models, Limited Late Models, and DARE Stocks joining the SK Modifieds® and SK Lights in feature action, the Dunleavy’s Modifiedz Night is sure to be one of the can’t miss events of the 2017 season!

  1. I don’t like the idea of you have to compete in 2 events to b eligible… Fans want to see more cars and drivers, not the same guys all the time.. Also what if a team is not ready till that date, now he can’t race??? What if a team wrecks really bad or blows a motor week 1 and can’t make it back till the biggest race of his career and you tell him “sorry you can’t race”???

I think the format is a great way to do exactly what Mark Arute said; maximize the payout to the weekly racers, which is exactly what Doug Dunleavy wanted to also do. Great way to reward the teams that support your facility!

That’s such a smart marketing move . Helps the first 4 weeks with extra car draws. That’s why Jack is who he is. Taught the kids right. Looking like a great holiday weekend .

  4. Never turn away a race car… if you don’t make 2 shows, add 50 lbs.
