Thompson Notes: Gentes, Burroughs Jr. And Galvin Sunday Winners

Wayne Burroughs Jr. celebrates victory in the Mini Stock feature Sunday at Thompson Speedway

THOMPSON – The reigning champ got his first chance to celebrate that reign Sunday in the Mini Stock division at Thompson Speedway.

Wayne Burroughs Jr., the division’s 2016 champion, scored victory in the 15-lap Mini Stock feature Sunday at Thompson Speedway.

Burroughs, of Oakdale, finished third in the division’s first event of the season at the Icebreaker at Thompson on April 10.

Nate Taylor of Wauregan was second and Jacob Perry of Pawcatuck third.

Perry led the first nine laps, but was pressed on multiple restarts by Burroughs. Following a lap 10 restart, Burroughs was able to come off the low line and get in front of Perry for the lead off of turn two.

“If you’ve got a car with a decent motor on the outside of you then it’s going to beat you down the straightaway every time,” Burroughs said. “I knew I had to get to the outside of him. So I kind of slid up in front of him coming out of [turn] two and I knew once I got there he had nothing for us. … He could have got me. Me and the kid have a lot of respect for each other. He lifted and let me in.”

Rick Gentes of Woonsocket, R.I. held off a charging William Wall on the final lap to win the 25-lap Late Model feature.

Wall, of Shrewsbury, Mass., was second and Ray Parent of Tiverton, R.I. third.

Josh Galvin of Franklin won the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature. It was his first career victory in the division at Thompson.
