STAFFORD – After practice at Stafford Motor Speedway Friday DARE Stock division points leader Zack Robinson wasn’t feeling all that optimistic about what was to come for his evening.

All day with the [Modified Touring Series] rubber out the car was wicked loose [into the corners]. And we had an issue with being really tight in the center [of the corners].

But when things are going good for a team it seems all the decisions are the right decisions. And things are surely rolling good this year for Robinson.

An adjustment just before the feature made all the wrong right for Robinson.

Robinson held off Johnny Walker to win the 15-lap DARE Stock feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

It was the third victory in eight events this year for Robinson, of Putnam, who has seven top-five finishes this season.

“I’ve got to thank Joe Brockett, the guy that sets up my car,” Robinson said. “He made the right choice and changed the car before the feature and I guess he had it right on. … I’m just really happy to have a third win this season and stay as the points leader. We’ve had a lot of good luck this season.”

Walker, of Ludlow, Mass. was second and George Bessette Jr. of Danbury third.

When Trace Beyer went to the front Robinson followed past Walker into second on lap 10. Then a lap later Robinson got by Beyer for the lead, a spot he wouldn’t relinquish the rest of the way. Walker closed on Robinson over the closing laps but didn’t have enough.

“We were having fun,” Robinson said. “When I passed him before I passed Trace [Beyer] I was like ‘Hopefully Trace will hold him off for a little bit.’ But then when he got around him he started reeling me in. But I think we had a little bit more than him this week. We definitely had more coming off the corners. A lot of people say not to look in the rear view mirror but as I was out front I was looking up and the only place that I saw that I was able to get him was coming off the corners.”

Said Walker: “What a great race. It was kind of letdown that we didn’t get the win, but we missed the setup a little bit. We were real loose coming out of the corners. We’ll work on that for next week and hopefully come back and get the win.”
