Stafford Notes: Marcello Rufrano Tops SK Light Modified Field

Marcello Rufrano

STAFFORD – Let the peaceful dreams begin for Marcello Rufrano.

“Now I can sleep at night,” Rufrano said after speaking with the media Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Rufrano took the lead on lap 11 and cruised easily to victory in the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway.

It was the first victory in nine starts this season for Rufrano, of North Haven.

“There was a never a doubt, or two,” Rufrano said sarcastically when asked if he was worried about winning this year. “We just took every race as it was and we’d build off each race. … There was never a moment [thinking] we were not going to get a win. We had a winning crew chief that knows what he’s doing. Every week we just kept getting better and better and tonight we just hit on it.”

Brett Gonyaw of Vernon of second Cory DiMatteo of Farmington was third.

“I was working the outside real hard,” Rufrano said of his pass on Gonyaw for the lead. “I needed a couple laps to get some heat in my tires because I was better on the long runs than I was on the short runs,” Rufrano said. “As soon as I got some heat in the tires I could just drive it as hard as I wanted to. The thing never got upset.”

Robert Bloxsom III of Stratford scored his first victory of the season in the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature. Duane Provost of Palmer, Mass. was second and Jeremy Lavoie of Windsor Locks third.
