THOMPSON – Derek Ramstrom made a homecoming visit into a celebration Friday at Thompson Speedway.

Ramstrom, of West Boylston, Mass., scored victory in the 60-lap Granite State Pro Stock Series feature at the Sunoco World Series of Speedway Racing at Thompson Speedway.

It was Ramstrom’s third series victory in three career appearances with the series.

The 26-year old Ramstrom grew up racing Quarter Midgets at the Little T Speedway at Thompson and spent his teen years running in various divisions at the track. He won the 2009, 2010 and 2012 Super Late Model titles at Thompson.

“It’s incredible,” Ramstrom said. “I love this place. I miss racing here weekly. … Every time we come here we’re a top-three car no matter what. I’ve got to give the credit to the crew. I grew up at the Little T Speedway. I’ve been watching people race here all my life. I just love this place.”

Derek Griffith of Hudson, N.H. was second and Tommy O’Sullivan of Springfield, Mass. third.

Griffith moved past Eddie MacDonald for the lead on lap 29. On a lap 31 restart it was Ramstrom going by Griffith for the lead. He never trailed again.

“It was extremely close there in the beginning,” Ramstrom said. “I was just trying to be patient. Sixty laps here is kind of long. It doesn’t sound long, but it is at the place. I just maintained a steady pace and at the right time I just closed the door and never looked back.”
