Ronnie Williams Gets First Whelen Modified Tour Pole For Icebreaker 150 At Thompson

THOMPSON – On Saturday at Thompson Speedway Ronnie Williams turned quite a few heads in the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour garage by putting up the fastest time of the day over a pair of practice sessions in preparation for today’s Icebreaker 150.

Sunday the Tolland driver backed up those efforts with a milestone.

Williams scored his first career pole in qualifying for today’s Whelen Modified Tour Icebreaker 150 at Thompson.

It was the first career Whelen Modified Tour pole for Williams, who is making his 13th career series start Sunday.

Williams toured the .625-mile oval with a fast lap of 18.791 seconds.

Doug Coby of Milford, looking for his fifth consecutive Whelen Modified Tour championship in 2018 and sixth title overall, will start second after putting up a lap of 18.803 seconds in group qualifying.

Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. was third in qualifying with a lap of 18.814 seconds.

Rowan Pennink of Huntingdon Valley, Pa. and Jon McKennedy of Chelmsford, Mass. rouned out the top-five respectively in qualifying.
