Justin Bonsignore

The hottest driver on the Whelen Modified Tour in 2018 keep the fire burning on a return trip home Saturday.

Justin Bonsignore of Holtsville, N.Y. scored victory in the Whelen Modified Tour Buzz Chew Auto Group 200 Saturday at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway.

It was Bonsignore’s fourth victory in seven Whelen Modified Tour events this season.

Ryan Preece of Berlin was second and Doug Coby of Milford third.

It was Bonsignore’s 16th career Whelen Modified Tour victory and fifth at Riverhead, his home track. In 15 career Whelen Modified Tour starts Bonsignore has 12 career top-fives.

Bonsignore took the lead from Preece on lap 171 and then held off the charges of Preece over the final 28 laps.

Former Riverhead regulars Dave Sapienza and Timmy Solomito rounded out the top-five respectively.

Comments

  1. Wondering if only 3 cars on lead lap at Riverhead and 7 on lead lap or one lap down vs 14 on lead lap at Seekonk means anything.

  2. Hmmmm…. Well, a tight, tiny track, an event with very few cautions, which means very long runs, results in very few cars on the lead lap. And the results are dominated by drivers with the most itty-bitty tiny bullring track experience.

    doh.

  3. @ Doug – Could be many things including:
    Lap traffic was a factor
Justin, Ryan & Doug have a lot more experience at Riverhead
    Some teams missed the setup
    Tire issues

  4. How about the yellows don’t count on Tri Track so you can pit without loosing lap where they do on the WMT races and at a track that is 1/4 mle very difficult to pit without loosing a lap. Or long green flag runs which limits the times the lucky dog can be used on the WMT when multiple cars are put a lap down. Pretty simple stuff.

  5. Crazy in NY says

Depending on your slant you could say 3 on the Tour out class everybody else cause they are the BEST.
    Or…..
The TT field is filled with mediocrity. ( however if you say that kindly note that two of the BEST three were
originally in that field.} The bigger question I think…which race was better?

  6. Okay, Doug = Crazy in NY

SOME teams missed the setup? Or perhaps three teams hit the setup? Where in the field are you going to draw the line to delineate the teams that hit the setup and missed the setup? lol.

  7. I think a better question to ask is how many laps down was the rolling road block 01?

  8. Doug, you are trying to compare apples to jelly donuts here and we both know you can’t do that. Sorry………

Well, somebody thinks comparing apples to jelly donuts is a meaningful comparison.

    😂🤣😆😝😜🤪🧐🤓😎🤭

  10. Justin is driving extremely well this season.

  11. Justin has always been a good driver and I think the change to LFR has put him in a different competitive zone where he can further showcase his talents.

  12. Gee no flux capacitor comments yet or is that cause the 2 car isn’t winning?

  13. The 2 car had their flux capacitor taken away.

Nobody else has been using one or abusing one.

Justin is doing very good. Put him in any chassis with the same power and contact patches and he’ll do just fine. His driving is different and much better this season.
