THOMPSON – Riverhead Raceway in Riverhead, N.Y. is home for NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour driver Justin Bonsignore.

But home away from home for the Holtsville, N.Y. driver is certainly Thompson Speedway.

Of Bonsignore’s 16 Whelen Modified Tour victories, seven have come at Thompson Speedway.

And Wednesday night the series points leader will be taking the field to green for the Bud King of Beers 150 at Thompson.

Bonsignore led the way in group qualifying for the Whelen Modified Tour Wednesday. Bonsignore put up a fast lap of 18.817 seconds to get his first career Thompson Speedway pole. It was his third pole of the season and eighth of his career. Bonsignore has won four of nine Whelen Modified Tour events this year, including both previous events at Thompson.

Doug Coby of Milford, who got his first victory of the season Friday at Stafford Speedway, was second fastest in qualifying, touring the .625-mile oval in 18.901 seconds.

Chase Dowling of Roxbury will start third in the field after posting a fast lap of 18.901 seconds, matching Coby’s time.
