Winner’s Purse Of $1,811 Up For Grabs In Call Before You Dig Late Model 50 At Stafford

Tom Fearn will be looking to continue his mastery of the Late Model division this season when the Late Model division takes to the track on Friday, August 17 for the Call Before You Dig Late Model 50, which will pay the winner $1,811. Fearn and the #92 King Ward Coach Lines team have racked up 10 feature wins in 15 starts this season and they are currently riding a 12-race streak of consecutive top-2 finishes with 10 wins and 2 second place finishes.

“The extra money is nice and I have to give a big shout out to Call Before You Dig for their involvement with the race and their continued involvement with Stafford through the Late Model 50 and the 811 Challenge,” said Fearn. “It would be really big to win the $1,811. Winning races is a great feeling for myself, the team, our sponsors, and friends. It sets a good mood for everyone involved and that keeps us focused on coming back the next week and doing it again.”

With a victory in the August 3 Late Model feature at Stafford, Fearn overtook Ryan Posocco as the track’s winningest Late Model driver with 46 career wins. Fearn is also Stafford’s winningest ProStock driver with 17 career wins. Despite his 63 career wins, one win that has eluded Fearn over the years is an extra distance victory. Fearn has come close with several second place efforts in the past, and he would like to be able to add an extra distance race to his plethora of Stafford victories.

“I don’t think I’ve ever won an extra distance race at Stafford,” said Fearn. “I know we’ve finished second in a couple of them in the past so it would be nice to add that to our win total. We’re confident for the race. We have a couple different scenarios that we’re preparing for that we can put into action. With the long distance races we haven’t always had the finishes but I feel like we’ve run well in them. With the races we’ve won this season, I would say we’re probably the favorites going into the race but I wouldn’t be disappointed with a second or third place finish. We usually don’t do anything different with the setup for this race. We carry extra weight with more fuel for the extra distance race, but other than that it’s pretty much the same. Hopefully we can be there at the end contending for the win. If we could win this race, it would really put a cap on the season.”

With 10 wins to his credit this season, Fearn has surpassed his win total of 2016 and 2017 when he won 5 and 3 races respectively. Despite winning 10 races once before in 2015, Fearn says that the 2018 season has come as a surprise to himself and his crew.

“This season has definitely been a surprise,” said Fearn. “We won 10 races a couple years ago and that was great but last year we only had 3 wins and year before that we had 5 wins. We had to ask ourselves how we could get back to that form and hopefully our win total wasn’t going to keep on going down. The Late Model tire was changed over the winter and we made some adjustments for that and the car has really taken to those adjustments. I think that everyone else is catching up to us. Kevin Gambacorta was right there with us last week and if I made one mistake he would have been in front of me. We’ve kept up with a few adjustments on the car as the weather has warmed up and we’re looking to finish the season out strong.”

Joining the Late Models in feature action will be Stafford’s SK Modifieds®, SK Lights, Limited Late Models, and Street Stocks. Tickets for the August 17 Call Before You Dig 811 50 event are are priced at $20.00 for adult general admission tickets, $5.00 for children ages 6-14, and children ages 5 and under are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult. Reserved seat tickets are $23.00 for all ages. All ticket prices include 10% CT Admission Tax. Stafford Motor Speedway offers plenty of free parking along with overnight parking available for self contained Recreational Vehicles.
