STAFFORD – On a night when Stafford Motor Speedway honored the track’s all-time winningest driver – the late Ted Christopher – it was his nephew ending the night with the biggest celebration.

Mike Christopher Jr. got his second consecutive victory in the 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature at Stafford Speedway.

His uncle Ted Christopher was killed in a plane crash on Sept. 16, 2017 while flying to a NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour event at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway.

Before the event Ted Christopher was remembered in a speech by track announcer Ben Dodge and a moment of silence in his memory was observed.

Mike Christopher Jr.’s 14-year old sister Nicole Christopher gave the command to start engines for the race.

“She did a great job,” Mike Christopher Jr. said. “She was really excited to do that. To do it here tonight for Ted, two weeks in a row, it doesn’t get much better than this.”

Glen Reen of Wilbraham, Mass. was second and Todd Owen of Somers third. It was third third victory of the season for Mike Christopher Jr.

Ronnie Williams of Tolland used a sixth place finish to clinch his first SK Modified track championship with one event remaining.

After a skirmish between Keith Rocco and Williams moved Mike Christopher Jr. took second, he took the lead from Todd Owen following a lap 27 restart and never trailed again.

“That was an eventful show for sure,” Mike Christopher Jr. said. “Me and Ronnie and Keith were battling to the front. Whatever happened there happened. I knew it was up to me to get the win after that because I knew we had a good car. And this is where we are.”
