Keith Rocco Stays Hot At Stafford Speedway With Another SK Modified Victory

STAFFORD – After a slow start to the 2012 season at Stafford Motor Speedway, Keith Rocco has given up hopes of chasing another SK Modified championship at the track.

That could be the worst possible news for his competition there.

Rocco has stopped thinking about racing for points and put the focus on one singular thing this year at Stafford and that’s chasing wins. The focus has shown of late.

Rocco drove away from the competition Friday to win the second 75-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature on Carquest SK Modified 150 night Friday at Stafford.

Danny Cates of Chaplin was second and Frank Ruocco of Cheshire third.

It was the third victory in the last six events in the SK Modified division. His other three finishes during that span were a second, a third and a fifth.

Rocco came into Friday night sixth in the SK Modified standings, he finished the night fourth, 62 points behind division leader Ted Christopher.

“I’m definitely getting back my rhythm,” Rocco said. “That’s a good thing. I don’t think about a championship. I don’t even see how that’s possible.”

It was a career best finish for Cates, who is in his first season competing full-time at the track.

“Luck hasn’t been on our side so much and I’m still learning here,” Cates said. “This is a tricky track to get the hang of. We’ve finally got the hang of it and I think the car is finally dialed in.”
