Ted Christopher Still Working To Put Together Deals To Finish Whelen Modified Tour Season

Last Thursday at Thompson International Speedway, just hours after he had found the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour team he was running for had shut down, Ted Christopher said he was hustling to find rides going forward for the remainder of the 2012 season in the division.

Finding a ride for the next race was the easy part. Christopher has driven part-time for car owner Wayne Anderson all season at Riverhead (N.Y.) Raceway, so it made sense that he would be behind the wheel of Anderson’s car when the series visits Riverhead this Saturday.

It was after that that Christopher was still up in the air with things. Last Thursday at Thompson Christopher said he thought he could likely be behind the wheel of a Joe Brady owned car for upcoming Whelen Modified Tour events at Stafford Motor Speedway next Friday and at Thompson Speedway on Aug. 9.

On Tuesday Christopher said nothing has been finalized as of yet.

Christopher said the biggest issue he faces right now is securing a motor. He said if he had a motor he could run in Brady’s car.

“I’ve talked to somebody on a motor and I’m waiting to hear,” Christopher said. “I’d like to be able to do that for Stafford and Thompson. I like Joe’s car. I like those guys. I get along with them. Everywhere I go with them we run well. I would just hate to miss Stafford, that’s like my home track.”

Christopher, the 2008 Whelen Modified Tour champion, is 11th in the standings. He had been driving for team owner Ed Whelan until Whelan decided last week to shut down his operation.

The 54-year old Christopher had 18 series victories and 48 top-five finishes in 92 starts for Whelan dating back to the 2006 season. Overall, Christopher has 42 career Whelen Modified Tour victories, two behind second place all-time Reggie Ruggiero, who has 44. Seven-time series champion Mike Stefanik is the division’s all-time leader in victories with 72.
