Sunday he’ll lead the field to green in his chase to grab a victory this year.

Blewett led the way in qualifying Saturday for Sunday’s Whelen Modified Tour CarQuest Fall Final 150 at Stafford Motor Speedway.

It was the first pole of the season for Blewett, of Howell, N.J.

“Ever since the second half of the season guys really stepped it up,” Blewett said. “We took Ed Bennett on as my crew chief and I can’t say enough good things about him. He just took my team to another level. All my guys do an excellent job. I just try to keep building off every mistake we made in the beginning of the year and try to make good out of it. Step by step we’re making improvement. Just hopefully we can keep the momentum here at the end of the season to start next season.”

Blewett toured the half-mile oval at Stafford in 18.308 seconds (98.318 mph).

Bobby Santos III of Franklin, Mass. was second fastest in qualifying at 18.371 seconds (97.981 mph).

Reigning series champion Ron Silk of Norwalk will start third Sunday after a qualifying lap of 18.474 seconds (97.434 mph).

Woody Pitkat of Stafford, making his second start for Hill Enterprises since reuniting with the organization, was fourth fastest (18.496 seconds, 97.318 mph).

Series points leader Doug Coby of Milford, looking to sweep victories in all four Whelen Modified Tour events this season at Stafford, will start 11th.
