STAFFORD – The Stafford Motor Speedway and NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour hosted the family of 6-year-old Sandy Hook tragedy victim Catherine Hubbard as special guests as part of the 42nd Spring Sizzler Sunday in Stafford.
Whelen Modified Tour driver Richie Pallai Jr. of Yorktown Heights, N.Y. has spearheaded Whelen Modified Tour fund raising efforts since January.
Catherine Hubbard was one of 20 students killed in the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown on Dec. 14, 2012. Six teachers and administrators at the school were also killed.
The Hubbard family and The Animal Center of Newtown are raising funds to build The Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary.
Pallai is supporting the fund raising efforts for the sanctuary through his participation in Stafford’s Champions for Charities on June 28.
Pallai and Tom Abele Jr. of Thirty Two Signs in Baltic designed a decal that Pallai will sell during the 2013 season to support fund raising efforts. Pallai’s car sported the special decal Sunday at Stafford.
“I wanted 26 stars to recognize the 26 victims,” said Pallai.
All cars running weekly at Stafford Motor Speedway are expected to run the decals.
Catherine Hubbard’s older Frederick was expected to serve as the Grand Marshall of Sunday’s 40-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature at Stafford.
