Stafford Speedway Announcer Joe Coss To Call Sprint Cup Event At Daytona International Speedway In July

When he got the opportunity to work at Daytona International Speedway for the Battle at the Beach last February, Joe Coss was hoping it was a chance that could open more doors for him in the world of motorsports announcing.

That door has opened, right back at Daytona International Speedway.

Daytona International Speedway management has asked Coss, a regular announcer at Stafford Motor Speedway, to return to the track to work as an announcer for the Sprint Cup Series Coke Zero 400 on July 6. He will also work the Nationwide Series event at the track on July 5.

Coss, of Terryville, won last year’s Battle at the Beach announcer search contest and with that earned the opportunity to work at Daytona in Feburary for the event.

“I had hoped that the contest and the Battle at the Beach would lead to something bigger, you just never know when that day is going to come,” Coss said. “So I was surprised that they gave me a call. I thought I definitely did a good job down there and put my best foot forward with what I did.”

Coss said working the Battle at the Beach event with legendary announcer Ken Squier helped him continue to hone his style.

“Working with Ken Squier was really a natural fit for me and I think that helped a lot in the presentation,” Coss said. “I think it made me a lot more comfortable and that enhanced the presentation and the call of the race and I think that was a big help.”
