There hasn’t been a motor fired in competition in 2014 at Stafford Motor Speedway, but already the fan club of one SK Light Modified division driver is out stumping for votes.
Joey Ferrigno, dubbed “The Mayor” by track announcer Matt Buckler, has driven about all there is that you can drive at Stafford Motor Speedway. From DARE Stocks, To Late Models, to open wheel Modifieds.
And when he wasn’t racing he was the track’s pace car driver for a stint.
He’s even driven junked out Porsche’s in the 24 Hours of LeMons at the track.
If it has wheels, the East Hartford driver is willing to get behind the wheel and see hot it performs on the half-mile at Stafford Speedway.
And it seems the Joey Ferrigno Fan Club at Stafford Motor Speedway is no less driven.
Ferrigno’s loyalists are already out campaigning to get their driver voted in by fans as the 2014 SK Light Modified Division Most Popular Driver.
With the NAPA Spring Sizzler set to take a green flag this weekend at Stafford, the Ferrigno fan club was blanketing the media with this press release shown below Thursday.
One of the more well-known characters at Stafford Motor Speedway is the colorful and likeable driver of the RH2Way-sponsored #87 SK Light — Joey “The Mayor” Ferrigno. He can often be seen making his way through the pits or in the grandstands, stopping to shake hands with just about everyone he sees. In fact, it was Stafford’s own announcer, Matt Buckler, who bestowed the nickname of “The Mayor” on Joey.
Joey’s years of racing in various divisions including Dare Stock, Limited Late Model, SK Light, Enduro cars, and Lemons at several different venues, plus his talents as a pace car driver, have made him a popular figure at the track. He even has his own cheering section in the turn 4 grandstands. Joey’s efforts on the track also usually help to make the SK Light race one of the most exciting events of the evening.
While some may see the SK Lights only as a stepping stone, Joey is excited to be starting his third season in a division that he views as competitive on a more affordable budget. With the support of his dedicated crew, whether he wins the championship or not, he will always be a winner.
