WATERFORD – Keith Rocco rolled easily to victory in the 30-lap Late Model feature Saturday at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl.

It was the ninth Late Model division at the Speedbowl in 2015 for Rocco, of Wallingford.

Chris Garside of Waterford had a career best second place and Jason Palmer of Berlin was third.

Rocco started eighth and got to Garside’s bumper at the front on lap 15. On lap 16 Rocco went to the outside of Garside in turn one and came off turn four with the lead.

From there Rocco checked out from the field.

“They had it stacked up pretty good up front,” Rocco said. “… We just took our time and once we got clear it was smooth sailing.”

Said Garside: “I was hoping we could [Rocco] off. The car was great, but it’s not Rocco’s car.”

Wayne Burroughs Jr. of Oakdale passed Ray Christian for the lead on lap 46 and held on to win the 50-lap Mini Stock feature.

Burroughs said he was biding his time for much of the event before making the late run at Christian.

“The beginning of the race guys were sliding all over the place,” Burroughs said. “We had guys wrecking in front of us. I was just trying to pick off a car at a time if I could without really beating up my car. … At the end the car was right there, it hadn’t faded at all.”

Christian, of Groton, was second and Ken Cassidy Jr. of Lisbon third.
