New London Waterford Speedbowl LogoDrivers at the New London-Waterford Speedbowl in the Legends, Bandolero and SK Light divisions will have more support in 2016 than ever before. Three businesses involved in motor sports have jumped on board to become title sponsors for the upcoming season.

The Joie of Seating, a business based in North Carolina that specializes in custom made seats for race cars, will be the title sponsor of the Speedbowl’s Legends Division. The Bandolero division will be sponsored by MicroBlue, a North Carolina-based company that’s involved in every form of racing in the world. Magnus Racing Products, which is located in Danielson, will be the season-long sponsor of the SK Lites.

The Joie of Seating Legend cars, the MicroBlue Bandoleros and the Magnus Racing Products SK Lights will be making their season debuts on Saturday, May 7th when the Speedbowl kicks off the 2016 season.

Randy LaJoie, the owner of The Joie of Seating, is a former Speedbowl competitor. He said getting involved in the Legends division is his way of giving back. “Any time you can bring safety to people, it’s a good thing,” LaJoie said. “There are a lot of young drivers in the legends, and we have a wonderful program for kids. It really works out well.” LaJoie’s Speedbowl career also worked out well. After just missing out on the season Modified championship in 1982, LaJoie got introduced to full-fender cars by Dick Williams, who was track promoter. “He talked me into driving the traveling house car, which was owned by Robbie Crouch’s dad,” LaJoie said. “It was the first time I got into one of those full-fender taxi cabs, and I took a liking to them.” LaJoie won three national championships — two in the South and one in the North. For the last 18 years, however, he has been involved in the racing safety industry. “We’re bringing Winston Cup technology to short-track racing,” LaJoie said. Lajoie will be donating $50 to the winner of each Legend Race.

MicroBlue bearings have been synonymous with success in motor sports.
“They are the best bearings in the world,” owner Craig LeClaire said. “You can’t win the Indy 500 without us.” LeClaire said being involved with the Bandoleros gives his company an opportunity to showcase its “excellent line of bearings.” “Using our bearings does make a difference and we’ve done a good business over the years with the Bandoleros,” LeClaire said. “One thing we like to do is support series that don’t always get a lot of support.” MicorBlue will be donating a $50 product giftcard to the winner of each Bandolero event. LeClaire said that more information about his business is available on microblue.com. “Because of the incredible performance, we really have no competition,” LeClaire said. “I think we’re the best kept secret in motor sports.”

Magnus Racing Products is no secret to local competitors — it has been servicing customers in the United States and Canada since 2009. Magnus Racing Products will donate $100 to the winner of each SK Light event as well as a $50 random draw bonus. “We want to give something back,” Mike Sangermano of Magnus said. “We try to do a lot with the SK Lights. A lot of the competitors in that division are up-and-coming drivers, and this give us a chance to promote our product. The goal is to start with these drivers early in their careers, and hope they will stay with us for the rest of their careers.” The Magnus show trailer is scheduled to make several events at the Speedbowl this season. “We plan on being around the track a lot,” Sangermano said. “We’re happy to be the title sponsor.”

The Speedbowl is thankful for Dave Prinz of Prinzision Racing for helping to arrange these title sponsors. The SK Modified, Late Model, Ministock and Ltd Sportsman divisions are still seeking contingency sponsors. If you are interested please contact the office at 860.442.7223.
