In the three years since Eddie & Connie Partridge and Tom Gatz purchased Riverhead Raceway the trio have shown they are not afraid to think outside the box and that trend will continue with the recent announcement that they’ll host a Wednesday Night NASCAR Special on July 11th.
Four NASCAR Whelen All American Series divisions plus a 8-Cylinder Enduro and a School Bus Figure Eight race will make up the midweek card. It has been over two decades since the track staged a Wednesday night program.
Besieged with four rain outs in the first six show scheduled in the soggy month of May the promoters were prompted to put together the Wednesday Night NASCAR Special.
With the track’s NASCAR Modifieds basically off for two weeks for the NASCAR WMT Buzz Chew Chevrolet 200 on July 7th and the Monster Truck event on July 14th the July 11th date made perfect sense. The Wednesday night NASCAR Modified main event will be a 40-lap affair with time trial qualifying.
Joining the open wheel warriors will be the Eagle Auto Mall Crate Modifieds, Super Pro Trucks and INEX Legend Race Cars. All three support classes will also qualify via time trials.
The Crate Modified feature will go 25-circuits with 20-laps to be the distance for the Super Pro Trucks and Legend Race Cars.The 8-Cylinder Enduro stars along with a wild School Bus Figure Eight race will round out the mid week excitement.
Championship points will be paid for all divisions including NASCAR WAAS Division 1 points for the NASCAR Modifieds.
Over the years Long island race fans have been very vocal on their desire for a mid week race program at Riverhead Raceway and that wish will now be granted July 11th with the presentation of the Wednesday Night NASCAR Special.
Track management being aware that most of their competitor and fan base will have to work that day have outlined a race day event schedule sensitive to those concerns. Pit gates will open at 4:00 pm with practice set from 5:00-6:00 pm. Spectator gates will also open at 5:00 pm with qualifying set for 6:30 pm. Opening ceremonies and feature event racing will start at 7:00 pm or the conclusion of qualifying.
