The Matt Hirschman 2021 Trophy Grabbing Tour is making its way up the east coast.

When last he was seen with his Tour Type Modified, Hirschman was walking away from New Smryna (Fla.) Speedway about a month ago after wins in the final two features of the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing and the division’s championship title.

Sunday Hirschman kept that roll on course in dramatic style.

Hirschman, of Northampton, Pa., used a last lap pass of Burt Myers to win the Southern Modified Auto Racing Teams tour season opening Smart Chevrolet 99 at Caraway Speedway in Sophia, N.C.

Myers, of Walnut Cove, N.C., ended up second. John Smith of Mount Airy, N.C. was third.

Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y. and Caleb Heady of Shelbyville, Kentucky rounded out the top-five respectively.

NASCAR Hall of Fame member and former Cup Series champion Bobby Labonte was ninth. Ronnie Williams of Tolland was 20th

Comments

  1. He really is Money

  2. Good field of 25 cars. Labonte had the second fastest single lap and finished so good start for the 25 team.. Williams in Tomaino’s 99 couldn’t finish.
    Good start for SMART.
Picture’s of the new SRX car at Caraway on the Stafford Facebook page. 700 HP with not so generous tires lends urgency to being very careful climbing the learning curve.

  3. Congrats to “big money” Matt. Way to beat up on those good ole boyz. Best of luck going forward.
