Inex Legend Race Special, School Bus Figure Eight Race On Card At Riverhead On June 12

(Press Release from Riverhead Raceway)

Another action packed, diversified race program is planned for Riverhead Raceway Saturday evening June 12th with the INEX Legend Race Cars and the seasons only School Bus Figure Eight race sharing the stage at the historic oval. Additionally six Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series divisions will be in action led by the Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modifieds and their 50-lap main event.

The INEX Legend Race Cars will contest the first leg of their Miller Lite Triple Crown Series Saturday night in a 30-lap affair with the field being set via time trial qualifying. Over the first month of the 2021 campaign over 35 cars have signed in weekly in the class with that number expected to lean more towards 40 for the first extra distance race of the year. In qualifying drivers will be out to not only set fast time but also take aim at the current track record of 12.490 set on August 15th last summer by George Tomko Jr. of Aquebogue. Tomko along with Joey Braun of Manorville, Eric Hersey of Ronkonkoma, Ray Fitzgerald of Manorville and defending champion Kevin Nowak of Medford have occupied the top five to date in the 2021 title chase. Other drivers in the top ten to keep an eye on are, Anthony Marsh of Riverhead, Allan Pedersen of Center Moriches, Jason Castaldo of Shirley, Brad Van Houten of Wading River and Riely O’Keefe of Manorville.

Aside from the Buzz Chew Chevrolet NASCAR Modifieds in action on June 12th will be the Eagle Auto Mall Crate Modifieds, Super Pro Trucks, INEX Bandoleros, Mini Stocks and a 8-Cylinder Enduro. It was announced this past week that the first leg of the Miller Lite Triple Crown Series for the Mini Stocks rained out on May 29th will now be contested this Saturday instead. The originally scheduled 20-lap feature for June 12th now becomes a 30-lapper with time trial qualifying to set the field. Top Mini Stock talents such as Mike Mujsce Jr. of Hampton Bays, Chris Elixson of Riverhead, Justin Squires of Flanders, Tony Collinsworth of Calverton and Tom Puccia of Shirley will all be contenders for the victory.

Once all the race cars are done with their door to door excitement is completed it will be time for the School Buses to take to the Riverhead track for the first time since August of 2019. Fans will marvel while popular drivers Michael “Cheesebox” Rommeney of Bohemia, “Mach Chicken” Robert Savoy of Selden, “The Punisher” Paul Fox of Riverhead and “Kevo” Kevin Rommeney of East Meadow will be among those trying to wrestle these 13-ton machines around the Figure Eight course.

The Saturday June 12th program finds the summer start times implemented with qualifying set to start at 6:00 pm while spectator gates open at 4:00 pm. Opening ceremonies and feature racing will follow qualifying. Adult admission is $30, kids 6-12 $10 with 5 and under free.
