I’m the perfest example of “penthouse to outhouse”, won Richmond and last at Monadnock. I let the format (no season totals) change my pack strategy and paid for it! 🙂 Hopefully Stafford will redeem me a little.
Changes noted. One of the reasons for not keeping season long stats is to encourage more out of the box picks. Lets face it we don’t want to be basement dwellers so the tendency is to pick favorites with the result being similar looking groups with only minor differences.
Lets see if no running stats produces more diversity and gut level picks as well as attract some new blood.

Going into todays action csg has earned a .5 point deduction in his final score for correctly identifying DJ Shaw as the winner of the ACT feature race. Suitcase Jake and myself carry over -1 point for correctly identifying Silk as a winner in one of the Duel’s.
The rule is no revisions after the event starts. However if there are no objections, since the 9nj was a no show and Barrett at the point of the revision 8:47 had not wrecked out an exception will be made with an asterisk (*) if he makes the LCQ race and qualifies. Just Me and AIJ remain the only other players in the hunt for the SITD bonus with the 11 of Flemke.

I have an idea for a change to the pick 6. Since there is a fairly predictable outcome with who everyone picks especially for the Whelen tour races where there are only just over a handful of good cars at most races. How about we pick the order in which they finish if you pick the exact spot they finish in its the place they finish -1 bonus point. I think most people pick the order already. I am sometimes lazy and just pick them in numerical order using the entry list with who I think the winner is first but I didnt last week.
So in the case of last weeks NHMS. There wouldn’t be any change in finishing order as we had a more diverse lineup and entry list for that race but I think it could settle some of the ties we have going forward as most pick sets include the same cars. It is a little bit more difficult on scoring but I think its a change worth considering.

So the objective is to have a system that produces more diverse scoring. The original scoring produced 5 separate scoring levels with two ties. Were the new system to have been used again 5 scoring levels with two ties. Based on the one mockup sample score it looks like more work without the benefit of getting greater scoring diversity. On the other hand I know I don’t pay any attention to order. It’s the winner then a pot the rest go into. No thought to order at all so there is a lot of potential to really mix things up when it’s actually in play.
What I really like is changing things up. My vote is to go with it for the Claremont race and since you’re the most familiar with it csg it only makes sense for you to do the organization and scoring.
Trying to pick order adds a whole new level of noodling so this twist should be a lot of fun.

Yes , CSG, we did have the position as part of “the original scoring” way back when we started the Pick’em …but as time went on we changed the tie
breaker to all six picks… But I think a re-visit could be FUN… Lets try it at Claremont … see how it works, definitely gotta think your picks through …This will give Doug a break from Scoring too… I got the idea several years ago from Pick’em football pools , Heck why not try a Pick’em for Modified Racing , It has grown and with lots of tweaks and good fun… I asked Doug to do the scoring from the start, as I was busy turning wrenches most weekends in the pits… So basically Doug has been “doing all the Work since” … So this will be good , give Doug a break from scoring and such , and just enjoy the Pick’em…. HAVE FUN = BE HAPPY !!!
True there was an order element way back but it wasn’t assigned specific scores and required a subjective judgement that just didn’t work. CSG’s twist is very specific as far as scoring goes and should work out quite nicely for the NWMT events. I’d suggest the added layer of scoring isn’t necessary for MMTTS races since they’re so dadgum hard to pick and the scores are usually all over the place.

Slight change this week to the pick 6. We are going to pick 6 drivers in the order in which you think they will finish. 1st thru 6. Regular scoring will apply with a bonus -1 point for correctly picking a driver to finish in his actual finishing position. The is the first time the csg scoring format rewarding the order of finish was scored. Noteworthy in that it gave Suitcase Jake the win whereas under the old system Bobf would have won.

Obviously our small group likes picking races. We made picks without any real direction on rules or scoring.
If I may be so bold how about we go by a loose framework on these Pick 6 contests.
Anyone can come up with any twist they like. Just put your marker down say 5 or 4 days before the race and that’s what we’ll do. You can score it if you like or tell me to score it and I’ll do my best to get it right. If no one throws in 3 days before an event I’ll post a pick 6. Could be traditional, could be the csg model or an audible I dreamed up.
It’s a community pick 6 so anyone is welcome to bend the rules in anyway they think may be fun. I know I don’t care and will dance to anybody’s tune as long as there’s a tune to dance to.

Regarding the confusion on the Heartbreaker. This is how it was worded when first introduced.

A couple things. First no need for thanks ever for scoring these deals. Frankly it’s been nice having it be a group effort to make it better and it’s not that hard to score. Just playing thanks enough.
Second I should be kicked out for that pick. Look at it. 5 favorites on the tour and Rameau who is known to do well at Monadnock. Thank csg for his correct finishing order bonus as well. I also have the highest score recorded for the MMTTS race at the Speedbowl. 81 points which was 80% higher then the next highest score.
It’s feast of famine for the old man baby so play on!
Now that we have a few races under the finishing order bonus. What are the thoughts on it? Has it changed the outcome at all. I suggested it because the Whelen tour really doesn’t have a lot of top running cars. At best there are 5 maybe 6 cars which you would legitimately say have an above average chance of winning at most races. At some of the lower entry events a pick 6 was around a third of the field. Picking the order adds some additional scoring elements to reduce the ties if most people pick the same drivers as I suspect most would. My biggest concern was difficulty in scoring, and I am happy that Doug doesn’t find the scoring to be a problem.
10 people in the pick em is great. I love the increase in participation. Is that the highest turnout we have had yet, to date? I believe Riverhead is next, which is a great race due to increased car count with the weekly competitors defending their home turf. Riverhead is probably one of the toughest races to pick.
Thanks to Doug and everyone for playing. I know the pick-em has kept me more interested in modified racing throughout the season when some of my favorite drivers fell off the tour. Then again when you see your race winner wrecked on the initial start of a tour race in Winchester…….You say to yourself, Well, I aint going to do well in this one.

The most entries happened last year well over 10 but 10 is the most for this year.
Your scoring model csg is not that much more involved to score. So far it’s made a difference only on the margins but it has so much potential for producing a blockbuster score if someone hits the order right and it will happen. It’s perfect for the NWMT events.
I won’t be using it for the MMTTS events. Those races are all over the place with huge margins so it’s not needed.

Scoring that was almost as fun as watching the race. Earl with the best raw score gets edged out by wmass who took advantage of 3 of the 4 bonus categories including the 01 two pointer to rally back for the win. Liz looked good for a solid third but lost the battle of the bonus points to Just Me scoring 3 to Liz’s 1.

Can you guys see with all those stars in your eyes? All those invaders and Newman’s the overwhelming invader choice?
In 2021-22 he started in 5 NWMT races with an average starting position of 8th, the average finish 15th. In 2023 at Richmond they failed to launch.
Well doug, may be cateracts are those stars in my eyes, but he did win the modified race there in the north wilksboro track revival in 2022. Pretty sure it was the august second or third race. Beat a guy but the name of hirschman i believe, who came in third. So in my view, he was as good as a pick as any. Wrestled between him or myers to be honest. Jmo.

Nice Job CSG , You run over an air hose and go from CONTENDER to also ran , Too Bad , BEERS had a FAST HOT ROD……. Jack man has to wait for FRONT tire Changer to clear nose with hose BEFORE you drop the JACK… Pit Crew is so IMPORTANT if you wanna CONTEND FOR A TITLE….. Hopefully the 64 will get these issues fixed before next year , Because they are REALLY FAST… The #82 of Lutz was also a Top Contender with new CREW CHIEF Dale Hedquist from the Championship Team # 79 had that car Flying until a misque on RR tire coming off … Broke the rear Coilover mount driving around the Track , Too bad , Was interested in what the 82 could do with Dale setting it up … They were Fast , until pit stop…. This goes to show you that TEAMS WIN CHAMPIONSHIPS …
