WATERFORD – Keith Rocco will return to the New London-Waterford Speedbowl next week chasing history.
Rocco won the 30-lap Late Model feature Saturday at the Speedbowl.
It was the 105th victory of his career at the track. He now sits one victory shy of tying Phil Rondeau’s all-time track leading 106 wins.
Rocco also won the SK Modified feature Saturday at the Speedbowl. He will compete in both the SK Modified and Late Model features next Saturday at the Speedbowl.
Jason Palmer of Berlin was second in the Late Model feature and Jeff Rocco of Wallingford third.
With questions about the future of the Speedbowl after the 2014 season, Rocco is just happy to be able to still chase the record.
“I have all season to do it, that gives me a little bit of a better feeling,” Rocco said. “… It’s awesome. It would be a big accomplishment in my racing career.”
The season-long Roger Turbush Show rolled into the Speedbowl and kept rolling.
Turbush of Riverhead, N.Y. won the 25-lap Mr. Rooter New England Truck Series feature.
It was the third victory in three series events this season for Turbush.
Frank Dumicich Jr. of East Quoque, N.Y. Bert Ouellette of Ellington was third.
Corey Hutchings of Salem led every lap on the way to victory in the 25-lap Limited Sportsman feature. Chris Douton of Waterford was second and Ryan Waterman of Danielson third.
Wayne Burroughs of Oakdale won the 25-lap Mini Stock feature.
“We made some changes this winter and we thought they would be for the better, but we weren’t sure,” Burroughs said. “To come out here and ran the way we ran in practice yesterday and then pass cars in the heat race and then dominate the feature like we did, it’s just nice.”
Dave Trudeau of Mansfield was second and Ken Cassidy Jr. of Lisbon third.
Cory DiMatteo of Farmington won the 25-lap Legends feature.
Ditch any series that draws less than 14 cars, combine two if u have to. I think it would be cool to have trucks racing against cars. Less divisions, more cars = happier fans.
Lauren the trucks are a touring series not a weekly series and the concept of trucks and cars on the track was tried in the 90s
Jim, ignore Lauren, she just wants every division to be modifieds and thinks that anything with fenders is for amateurs. She’s overly biased and tends to make ridiculous statements. This is another fine example.
