THOMPSON – Ryan Preece served his punishment and then put on the show Wednesday at Thompson Speedway.

Preece, of Berlin, rallied from a lap-10 penalty to win the 30-lap NASCAR Whelen All-American Series SK Modified feature Wednesday at Thompson Speedway.

Woody Pitkat of Stafford was second and Keith Rocco of Wallingford third.

Even before getting penalized to the rear of the field, Preece’s ride in the SK Modified feature was already stirred with dramatics.

On lap seven Keith Rocco rode Preece high up into turn four to take over fifth place. A lap later though Preece came right back, giving Rocco a bump up the track to retake the spot.

“I felt like it was even the score,” Preece said. “He whacked me and my [front suspension] was knocked in and then I don’t know what happened with him. It was an even score, hard racing.”

But two laps after winning the battle with Rocco, Preece got into Shawn Thibeault going into turn one, setting off a hard wreck that ended the night for Thibeault and Ed Puleo.

Preece was sent to the rear of the field for the contact.

“With the penalty over there, I feel really bad for Shawn,” Preece said. “When I get home I’m going to go over his house. I’m going to give him $500 to fix his car because I feel horrible for it. I don’t know how much it will be, but I feel bad. I misjudged, I didn’t know [Ed Puleo] was going to lift as early as he did and I whacked Shawn.”

After the penalty Preece made quick work of flying back up through the field and was back to fourth by lap 13. He went to second behind Cam McDermott on a lap 18 restart. On a restart a lap later he went by McDermott to take over the lead for good.

It was the second victory in two SK Modified events this year year at Thompson for Preece.
