STAFFORD – Payback time paid off Friday at Stafford Motor Speedway for Andrew Hayes.

Hayes used some timely bumping to go by Austin Bessette for the lead on lap 19 and then held on to win the 20-lap Limited Late Model feature Friday at Stafford.

It was the second victory of the season for Hayes, of Charlton, Mass., the division’s reigning champion.

Duane Provost of Springfield, Mass. was second and Bessette, of Stafford, third.

Bessette had left the field behind, but a late caution gave Hayes the chance to pounce. And fresh in his memory was an incident from last week’s event with Bessette.

“I think we had the car to beat there at the end,” Hayes said. “I remembered a little incident that happened last week, so I decided to give it back to him. Maybe a little cleaner than what happened to me last week. We had a great car in practice. We got that caution, got to restart in third and we just took off from there.”

Said Bessette: “The car was on rails. I’m glad my dad made the right adjustments for tonight. But we don’t have any luck. We start on the inside, we lead the majority of the laps, then we just get hit and run over. But it’s never a problem when they get hit. Whatever.”

Tom Fearn took went to the front on lap 28 – after then leader Tom Butler got hit from behind on a restart – and held on to win the 30-lap Late Model feature.

Michael Bennett of Stafford was second and Kevin Gambacorta of Ellington third. Butler, of Stafford, rallied to finish fourth.

Tyler Trott of East Hartford won for the third time this season in the 15-lap DARE Stock feature.

Frank L’Etoile Jr. of Wethersfield was second and Trace Beyer of West Dover, Vt. third.

Devin O’Connell of Madison won for the fourth consecutive week in the 20-lap Legends feature.

Cory DiMatteo of Farmington was second and Dana DiMatteo of Farmington third.

Comments

  1. Does anyone know how Paul Bourdon is doing? That was a heck of a hard shot he took last night!

    I hope he’s OK.

  2. Barry,
The guys from Rent A Racecar confirmed last night that he was treated and released from the hospital. I had posted it kind of late on Facebook after the show was over Friday night.
