Sunoco World Series Notebook: Winners Abound Saturday At Thompson Speedway

Thompson World Series Logo 2015THOMPSON – Tony Membrino Jr. held off the charges of Nick Salva and Brett Gonyaw to win the 20-lap SK Light Modified feature and close out Sunoco World Series Saturday at Thompson Speedway.

It was the first World Series weekend win at Thompson for the Plantsville driver, who is a regular in the SK Light Modified division at Stafford Motor Speedway.

Gonyaw, of Vernon, was second and Carlos Gray of Manchester third.

Pete Zakarite of Niantic scored his first career North East Mini Stock Tour victory, though there was no celebrating on the track for him.

Zakarite finished third at the checkered of the 20-lap feature, but winner Toby Wells and second place Matt Sonnalter were disqualified in postrace tech inspection according to an announcement on the North East Mini Stock Tour Facebook page.

Joe Baxter was moved to second and Mike Viens third. Mitch Bombard of Willimantic ended up fifth after the order changes.

Randy Cabral held off Todd Bertrand at the line to win the 25-lap NEMA Midget Feature. John Zych finished third.

Burt Ouelette won the New England Truck Series event. Roger Turbush was second and Frank Dumicich Jr. third.
