Palmer, of Berlin, ran away easily with his first victory of the season in the 50-lap Late Model feature Saturday at Waterford.

“We started off the season with a great car,” Palmer said. “We had a great run for three weeks. Then we kind of wandered away and tried some different stuff and tried to get the car a little quicker and it just didn’t seem to work. Then we got tore up.”

Dillon Moltz of Waterford was second and Ray Parent of Tiverton, R.I. third.

Palmer started third in the field and spent the opening stages of the race battling Joe Curioso for second place.

Palmer was second on a restart with 41 laps remaining and went by leader Rich Staskowski and never trailed again.

“We worked on this thing last night, we were still straightening out things last night that we wrecked last weekend,” Palmer said. “We changed the whole setup back to what we could run 50 laps with and it was worth it.”
